Surrendering to Nature

Site-specific Installation

Surrendering to Nature was a series of works created in the summer of 2022 while in residence with La Maison Verte Art Residency Program in Marnay-sur-Seine, France. The installation is an imagining of what it might be like to let go of control, giving authority back to nature. The panels were made on old bed linens, stained with coffee, drawn with charcoal, and printed using the Tataki Zome method. Alma used all natural materials with the intention for the works to decay. This semi-permanent installation lives at the Botanical Gardens of Marnay-sur-Seine. It was made to interact with the landscape of the garden, and will be documented overtime. The work seeks to remind viewers that it is natural to be queer, while recognizing that there are many violent systems that make it easy to forget this.
